Twelve Years Later: New Initiative to Reinvigorate Investigation into Emma Fillipoff’s Disappearance and Unresolved Lead of “The Man in the Green Shirt”

Victoria, BC - In the ongoing search for missing Canadian woman Emma Fillipoff, a renewed initiative centers on an unresolved lead: the mysterious “Man in the Green Shirt.” A newly updated website, and recently updated forensic imagery aim to bring fresh attention to the twelve-year-old case.

Quotes:

“I thought this was really well done. A very rigorous, thoughtful approach on how to develop a more usable image of what this person may look like, versus the grainy CCTV footage that we’ve relied on thus far.” — Dr. Michael Arntfield, Criminologist

“I hope that when this image is released to the public, through this documentary and hopefully through the media, that someone is going to recognize this man and come forward.” — Hew Morrison, Forensic Artist / Consultant

“This investigation needs just one person with the right information to come forward. If you are the person known as, “Green Shirt Guy”, if you know who he is, or if you have any other information related to Emma’s case, contact the Victoria Police Department, or report anonymously through Crime Stoppers.” — Det/Cst Bob Illes, Lead Detective / Victoria Police Department

“I believe that re-visiting the story of the green t-shirt man will spark renewed interest in my daughter's case. I have long felt that this man could be a valuable source of information in Emma's disappearance.”
— Shelley Fillipoff, mother of Emma Fillipoff

Key Points:

• Twelve-Year Anniversary: November 2024 marks twelve years since the disappearance of Emma Fillipoff from Victoria, BC.

• Newest Documentary Series Preview on The Man in the Green Shirt:
Bayberry Films released a third, 22-minute preview, The Man in the Green Shirt, on November 28, 2023, ( watch ) coinciding with the eleven-year anniversary of Emma's disappearance. This preview brings renewed focus to the unresolved story of The Man in the Green Shirt, in hopes of igniting public interest in this potential lead.

• Forensic Artist Collaboration:
Forensic artist Hew Morrison worked with Emma’s mother, Shelley Fillipoff, and filmmaker/advocate Kimberly Bordage to create a composite of The Man in the Green Shirt, based on grainy surveillance footage. The image is part of a new initiative to draw public attention to this person of interest.

• Background on The Man in the Green Shirt:
Eighteen months after Emma’s disappearance, while her mother, Shelley Fillipoff, was in Vancouver searching for her daughter, a significant lead emerged. On May 27, 2014, an agitated man in a green t-shirt and shoes, with a pronounced limp and tattooed arms, entered a clothing boutique in downtown Vancouver holding a crumpled missing person poster of Emma. The man claimed Emma was “not missing” and referred to her as his “girlfriend.” He left the store before the police could arrive. Despite extensive media efforts, this individual remains unidentified.

• Renewed Appeal to Share Composite Image:
A renewed effort is now underway to distribute the digital composite of The Man in the Green Shirt, a critical lead that has so far received limited exposure. Last year’s attempts to engage the public and media in identifying him were largely overlooked, and minimal coverage meant this vital image didn’t reach nearly enough people. This new initiative aims to circulate the composite image more widely than ever, encouraging the public to view and share it in the hope that someone, somewhere, may recognize him.
