Thirteen Years Later: Emma Fillipoff’s Case Moves to Historical Missing Persons Unit as Docuseries Reaches a Milestone

November 2025 – Thirteen years after the disappearance of Emma Fillipoff, her mother Shelley Fillipoff and advocate/filmmaker Kimberly Bordage of Bayberry Films [ https://bayberryfilms.com/ ] reflect on both the emotional toll and the continuing search for answers. In a newly released Vodcast episode, The Search for Emma Fillipoff: 13 Years [ https://vimeo.com/1135787821 ], the pair discuss what it means for Emma’s file to now be officially designated as a historic missing person case under the Victoria Police Department’s Historical Missing Persons Unit.

Despite the formal reclassification, both Shelley and Kim emphasize that the search is ongoing. They remain in active communication with investigators and continue to receive and forward tips from the public. The re-designation does not close Emma’s case - it simply marks another difficult milestone in a long journey that remains very much alive.

Key Points:

Independent Docuseries Progress
The upcoming six-part independent documentary series, Barefoot in the Night: The Search for Emma Fillipoff, has been in production for several years acquiring interviews and chronicling Shelley Fillipoff’s journey searching for her daughter. Directed by Kimberly Bordage, the project is an extension of the search and a personal collaboration, highlighting not only the investigation but also the enduring human story of a mother at its center. The series continues to evolve, with additional shoots scheduled for 2026.

Episode 1 will premiere January 6, 2026 - on Emma’s birthday - as a free public release through Bayberry Films [ https://bayberryfilms.com/ ] and https://helpfindemmafillipoff.ca/.

“Words and Time”
In this vodcast [ https://vimeo.com/1135787821 ], Shelley shares one of the first poems she wrote after Emma’s disappearance, “The Storm Behind the Smile.” For her, poetry became a way to mark each passing month - a means of keeping time and connection alive. Kim and Shelley reflect on how words, film, and memory intertwine to sustain hope and remembrance.

The Search Continues
A new feature has been rolled out, SpeakPipe, an online tool that allows people an additional way for anyone with information about Emma’s case to leave an audio tip directly to the search team. This can be accessed by visiting https://helpfindemmafillipoff.ca/ or directly at https://www.speakpipe.com/findemma

As Shelley reminds viewers, “Emma is still missing, but she is not forgotten” underscoring the ongoing need for public awareness, information sharing, and compassion for families of the missing. We encourage anyone with information to reach out through the official website.
